You almost have to be crazy. You go against the grain of normal society who is meanwhile slaving away at day jobs they hate just to come home and watch mind-wasting bulls@#$ on TV! You are someone who dives into the greed filled cesspool of the music industry hoping to change the world!

It's time to dust off the old snorkel and wet suit and dive into the war zone head first!

First of all, who told you this rockstar business was easy? It's not supposed to be easy! It never will be. It's the universal weeder class for rock star wannabes. You are either going to do it all out or your aren't!

You should expect some adversity if you wanna become a rock star. In the face of said adversity, you will be required to continually remember where you came from. As Roland of Gilead would put it, "remember the face of your father."

It just depends on whether you're willing to let your ego take a step father sized beating!

When you are passionate about something, it sucks even more when stuff doesn't go the way you planned. The more passionate you are, the stronger the sting in the face of failure. Which is why staying inspired to play music is even more important! Then once you DO make it, you can give them an even bigger middle finger, publicly even! So I'd start making that s!@# list now!

Staying inspired to play music: Nature

Nature is reflective. Exponentially so if you ate mushrooms prior to entering the magic kingdom of the forrest! Really, though, nature helps you relax and get in touch with the earth. Breathe deep and practice writing song lyrics while hiking. Or, take your acoustic guitar into the woods and write while sitting on a rock.

Drugs not cutting it? Try sleeping for 12 hours in a row. Whenever I am burned out and can't take any more slavery to my profession, I go to bed for half a day. You wake up feeling refreshed and inspired to practice guitar again. After a pot and a half of coffee followed by a line of coke and a shot of Jim Beam of course! Gotta knock those mental cobwebs off somehow if you are going to write hit songs!

Attend a live concert

Remember what made you want to play music in the first place? Exactly. A bad a$$ live concert by your favorite band! Ringing ears afterwards. Going home to practice guitar until four in the morning, smelling like booze, cigarette smoke, and sleaze -- that classic "rock show" smell! Going back to your roots is the perfect way to stay inspired for all the RIGHT reasons.

Staying inspired to play music: The push to try even harder

When those douche nozzles go out of their way to show you what dicks they are through psychological projection, it should make you want to try even harder, if only to prove them wrong.

Staying inspired is about working when no one else is telling you what to do.

Sometimes with our workaholic forward-looking mindset, we get so caught up with achieving new goals we forget how far we have come. Therefore, it is always important to take a step away and look back over all your previous achievements. This will help put into perspective how far you have come and temporarily take the focus off of how far you have left to go! It is said that even God took a break. If He needs to take five and hang ten, I guess you can take one too!
