Check out these Silence Of Daylight Tabs for a complete Castlevania guitar lesson. Learn to play video game themes on your guitar from Castlevania 2.
The Silence Of Daylight theme can be heard in Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest during the day in towns. To play this on the guitar, we have to try our best to emulate the old MIDI sounds used in the video game.
Imitating video game music on guitar usually requires some innovation. To recreate the Silence Of Daylight tabs accurately, we will be using some awkward finger movements and diminished arpeggios.
Many guitar players don't feel comfortable with diminished shapes. This song should get you used to using them. To make a diminished arpeggio, all you have to do is stack minor thirds, like the ones featured in the beginning of our guitar solo lesson: insane guitar solo.
Silence Of Daylight is not played at a fast tempo, but we do have to play lots of fast phrases in sixteenth note patterns. Just practice slow at first and then pick up your tempo as you learn the patterns by memory.
Many of the arpeggios used in Silence Of Daylight are some you may already know. There are D7 arpeggios, G minor arpeggios, and F arpeggios. You should recognize these as you come across them, especially if you are familiar with barre chords (many arpeggios are just barre chords played from low notes to high notes).
Just like we did in our Bloody Tears lesson (another main theme from Simon's Quest), we will be trading off between parts, making two parts in one. This is so you can play all the parts on one guitar and make it sound cool. It's more fun that way.
...do your fingers a favor and collect them all!

Structurally, there are only 3 parts in this Castlevania theme. Most video game themes are written so they can be looped while you are in an area, such as the town during the day in our case. We will learn each theme by itself, then you can loop it to your heart's content.
Section 1 is pretty easy. It's a laid back melody that seems to be built around the G minor chord, but with a raised sixth.
If you can, flatten out your middle and ring fingers to play those 15-14-15 licks on the third and fourth strings. You'll have to pull off from 15 to 14, using the pad of your fingers, because you have to cover two strings at once.

Section 2 gets more interesting. This is where we start using our arpeggios to create the memorable melody of Silence Of Daylight with. Learn the fretboard shapes first, just like you would if you were actually playing chords instead of arpeggios. Then play it up to speed.

Section 3 starts out with some unison bends. String bending is easy once you get the hang of it.
This section alternates heavily between two separate MIDI instruments heard in the game, so you'll have to do a lot of jumping around on the fretboard to make it work.
