A metronome is simply a device to keep time while you practice your guitar. It clicks in an even rhythm just like a clock...
Your goal is to match the tempo (speed) to the song you want to learn and play it in perfect time with the clicks.
Tempo is measured by BPM (beats per minute). This setting tells you how many clicks will happen per minute. 70 BPM is pretty slow, while 200 BPM is fast!

When practicing with your metronome, always start slow. Work your way up to faster tempos only when you have mastered a slower speed. It's not a race to the end!
The best way to learn how to use a metronome is to pick one up and start playing to it. It's that simple!

The first metronome exercise you should ever do is to play open notes on your guitar to the click.
Set your tempo somewhere between 60 and 80 bpm. Just sit there and play single notes at the exact moment the click happens. This can be harder than it sounds if you are new to using a metronome!
