I decided to start a series called "How to play guitar like Protest The Hero" while on my own guitar slinging journey through Middle Earth towards the elusive Dark Tower. I have recently been so utterly inspired by the guys from this progressive metal band that I wanted to delve more deeply into the guitar technique proliferating their style by learning each song from the record Fortress.

Many of the techniques found throughout Protest The Hero's music are covered somewhere on this site, but these lessons will teach the tricks of the trade as they pertain specifically to Protest The Hero songs using videos and correct tablature.
Learning how to play guitar like Protest The Hero will probably make you an all around more impressive/awesome/annoying-to-people-who-don't-like-metal, show off...but how cares. Most of my Protest The Hero tabs are the parts played by Luke Hoskin. Some of the rhythm breaks are played by Tim Millar and I may favor those. However, I have written out the guitar lessons and chosen the parts in the way that I play the songs along with the record. So even if I switch to a Tim Millar part momentarily, I tend to play Luke Hoskin's parts whenever possible.
