"How To Be A Rockstar"

Share

NOTE: This article is a "response" to my original article: Why do you play music? Is it for the right reasons? Here, we visit the opposing viewpoint, the other side of the coin. Yes, we are viewing two extremes. That is important. Most people are somewhere in the middle, but please consider these opposing extremes with an open mind.

Why try in the first place?

There is no reason to play in a band other than the ultimate goal of being a rockstar, generating ungodly amounts of income, abusing drugs like candy, and having anything else you want for free.

Seriously, life is short. Why waste it?

If you think about it, that might be the reason why you got into a band in the first place. To exploit the simple pleasures of life on earth and consume mass amounts of everything from the people's emotions to money.

But who cares because money is no item. It's meaningless. What matters is rocking out. Having fun. And being an idol.

What are the benefits of just playing music to be a rockstar?

You don't have to waste time writing "great" songs, because your role is not really about great music, it's about flagrant obsessions with partying and not giving a f--k.

You don't really have to practice your instrument to be anything spectacular. Just rock out and you'll be fine. It's more about the attention you can draw to yourself with other methods (how you dress, your attitude towards life, etc...)

It's less about inspiration than it is about proving a point to those that are susceptible that: "I am convinced through some deep emotional "understanding" that I deserve to be better than you". It's more of a social win. It's about capitalizing on the mechanisms that were in place since before I woke up on planet earth. I didn't make the rules, I just take advantage of them.

There is a positive side...

Being self-centered is not a negative thing. It's just a way of life. Instead of pretending that there is some deep meaning in life, I know that it will all end one day and I try to enjoy every moment that I have been blessed with.

Being in the moment is a high level of existence. It comes easy to some, but others have to work at it. It's about appreciating your friends and family, and trying to make the most of the time you have together. After all, we are not guaranteed a tomorrow. It could all be gone in the morning.

What then? You might wish you did things different. That is normal. You might wish you went out on a limb more, went against the grain more, and did "outrageous" activities more often!

In a way, in living the life of a rockstar, we try purposefully to live every moment, to breathe the air around us, and to contribute through our "being".

Isn't the rockstar mindset pretentious?

It may sound pretentious, but isn't that the role of the rockstar? And you know you love it, because it's our high level of pretentiousness that makes it larger than life. That's why we are here. To be larger than life.

Instead of quietly denying the facts of life, we wholeheartedly accept them. Just go with it. It feels better.

Yes, it's true that you don't have a clue what tomorrow could bring, so why consider it? Just live in the moment, enjoy your music, turn your amp the f--k up, and release your energy that life has given you. It's a gift to you and others.
