Guitar practice amplifiers should be affordable, small, and practical. Don't spend wads of cash on a practice amp -- The best practice amp for you may just be a small, cheap one. It gets the job done!
The best practice amp gives you options:
What is a guitar amp? It makes your guitar loud!
Why do you need one? To make your electric guitar electric!
But you don't need the biggest amp out there just to practice, whether you are in a band, or just play at home...
When practicing your guitar at home or at band practice, you will want a small, portable guitar amplifier to carry around, one that can take some damage!
It's simple: you don't need tons of effects and loads of power built into your guitar practice amp -- Just a few basics are fine!
Here is what to look for in a basic guitar amplifier:
All amps have some of the same basic settings...
Make sure you have a dirty channel for distortion. Most small amps have one or two channels. One is for clean sounds, the other is for dirty sounds. Simple!
Basic EQ settings. You should be able to adjust your bass, middle, treble to get the best tone out of your small practice amp. There's no reason to sound terrible!
One speaker gets the job done. Anything more and it will be heavy to carry around. You just want to be able to pick it up and walk out the door.
Solid state amps don't have these.
Get a solid state amplifier for practicing if you want more effects. Small solid state combo amps generally come with built in sound effects. These can be cool to play around with.
Solid state is a term for amps that don't have power tubes. You can tell by looking in the back of the amp for glass tubes. Many professional guitarists prefer tube amps for their unique sound and tone.
Your best practice amp will be light, affordable, and have at least a distortion channel for heavy riffing.
Have you considered using a small guitar practice amp for practicing at home?
There are several advantages of having a small practice amp around the house:
How do you find the cheapest guitar practice amplifiers?
You can buy a used one!
Just walk into your local pawn shop and plug into their amps. Play around on it to make sure everything works. Try haggling with them to get a better deal!
Of course, you don't have to buy used. Check your nearest Guitar Center for small practice amps at an affordable price.
When most people think of rock music, they think of the brand name Marshall. Marshall has been making guitar amps forever and they are a trusted brand name.
A good little Marshall combo amp will give you decent distortion and a good tone. Resell value will be higher since it is a brand name. People will recognize that you have a nice guitar amp and think more highly of you. ;)
Marshall amps have a unique distortion tone. They make all kinds of different shapes and sizes of amps. This is a good choice for anyone looking for basic guitar practice amplifiers.
