Guitar scale patterns
Every guitar scale has it's own unique pattern that it creates on the fretboard. Memorizing the unique pattern makes learning the scale ten times easier.
For example, the major scale has a certain pattern, while the minor scale makes a different pattern. Today we will look at the C major scale.
Just think of it like a shape that your fingers make across the fretboard. It's easier to memorize when you can visualize on your guitar. And, when you spend some time learning your fretboard notes, it's a lot easier!
C major scale
The C major scale is great if you are just learning scales. Ever play a piano? Just imagine plinking through all the white keys in a row. That's a C major scale!
Here's how the C major scale is made on guitar: we will start with a C note and end with a C note. That's for consistency!

Pentatonic guitar scale
Another really common easy guitar scale is the pentatonic scale. It's even easier to memorize then the C scale, AND easy to play!
What's great about this scale is that it is used in tons of popular guitar solos in rock music. Many great licks can be created just using the notes in this scale. Try it out.

Easy guitar solos
Like I said earlier, some of the best guitar solos are made using these simple guitar scale patterns. Remember how we said that guitar scales make solos?
That's because all the notes you need are already there in the scale, you just have to put them together in a tasteful way that makes sense, and viola, you have a neat little guitar solo.
Here is a piece of a simple guitar solo using only the notes of the pentatonic scale. Try it out!

Why is the pentatonic scale so common in solos? Probably because it is easy for your fingers to integrate into muscle memory. It's only two notes per string, and each string shares common fingers all the way down.
