Prior to my encounter with Swamp Works Amplifiers and discovery of their Bayou Bitch model, I had been increasingly dissatisfied with my old rig and its lifeless tone. Playing through a Mesa Boogie at the time, I found that during live performances I was constantly reaching back to tweak knobs! And yet I still never really got a sound that I was COMPLETELY and UTTERLY happy with!
Disgruntled and unsatisfied, these acrobatic dynamic tone adjustments distracted me from my PERFORMANCE and recognition as a qualified lead guitarist in my field...I needed a change! QUICK!
That's right folks, my sense of humor is
sometimes that of a fourteen year old
Because of my tonal dissatisfaction from my previous guitar amp, I embarked upon a quest to find the PERFECT guitar amp for my unique sound. I knew I wanted something HEAVY with BITE, but also something that reproduced my playing style without being too harsh or brittle.
Having been long-time buddies with the guys from Swamp Works Amplifiers, I decided to head over to the shop and test drive some of their pre-built models.
I was feeling good about it by the time I flicked the power switch to the on position and took their Bayou Bitch for my first test spin. I was immediately pleased with everything about it! From its superb tone to its simple controls, this bad boy was bad a$$! In fact, it was hard to make this amp sound bad!.
Come check out the inside of my amp!
You know how the GOOD gear speaks for itself? Well, this amp did a lot of talking for its size and backed up what it had to say! I was literally blown away by its crystal clear tones and natural, yet modern rock chunks of big sound that were coming at me. "This baby packs a punch!" I thought.
The Bayou Bitch has a powerful sound to match its name. It's a relatively small amp that sounds BIG. The first thing I noticed about this amp is that it's almost like you are playing the amp as though it were an instrument of its own. For example, if you pick a string softly you get a cleaner tone. If you chug away on a heavy riff it will produce MORE grit.
This is the perfect amp for the PRECISE, DYNAMIC player who wants an amp that creates a perfect reflection of what they are doing with their fingers without muddying up the notes.
See the Bitch behind me?
In other words, you won't be hiding behind a veil of fuzz when you rock out with this baby! You'll become a better player because you will start hearing mistakes you didn't even notice you were making before!
The GOOD thing about a custom boutique guitar amplifier is that you have a personal contact within the company with whom you can correspond about the details of YOUR particular build. Change things here and there, modify components, work together on ideas. It's all up to you!
The downside to buying an amp from a relatively small boutique amplifier company such as Swamp Work Amplifiers is that geographic location MAY be an issue. It's good to be able to visit the shop during the course of the build and test out the amp along the way, seeing if there is anything you want to change BEFORE the amp is finished.
Another objective downside is that if there IS something you would like to change about your amp, it may take longer to find someone that can fix it or return it to headquarters in little old Huntsville, Alabama. (Hopefully as the company grows, it will expand geographically as well.)
