Easy... You plug it in!

The job of your guitar pickups is simple: "pick up" the sound of your vibrating electric guitar string and carry it out to your amp. Your pickups use special coils made of wire to detect the vibration of the strings when you strum them. Isn't electricity awesome!
Guitar pickups come in all shapes and sizes. The most common types are Single Coil and Humbucker.

Humbucker -- look at the Gibson Les Paul
